From 14 to 16 October, the Regional Unit of Western Attica organized the 3rd Culture Exhibition “Old and new homelands” which took place at the old Olive mill in Elefsina.
The event was attended by local cultural organizations and clubs and dance groups. As part of this event, the organizing committee contacted SolidarityNow and asked for the participation of the 280 refugees who live at the camp of Elefsina, in which our organization operates with Mobile Units – Blue Dots program (with the support of UNICEF).
It was our joy to participate, of course, and together with our beneficiaries we undertook the activities where the protagonists were the children of the hosting structure: an art exhibition entitled “Old and new homes” and the presentation of a traditional song from the children of the camp. Also, our little friends assumed the cutting of the ribbon as the symbolic inauguration of the event.
The event was a great success, and the input of the audience was moving. For their participation and effort, the refugees were awarded as all the rest of the participants. More importantly, it was announced by the Regional Unit that they will improve the transport of refugees from and to the hosting structure that currently occurs only once a day and in a coach of Hellenic Petroleum.
Congratulations to both the Regional Unit of Western Attica for the initiative and the SolidarityNow team and the refugees of Elefsina hosting structure for the participation and the excellent preparation!
