{"id":16489,"date":"2025-07-23T13:01:18","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T13:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.solidaritynow.org\/?page_id=16489"},"modified":"2025-07-24T09:22:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T09:22:08","slug":"ukraine-response","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.solidaritynow.org\/en\/ukraine-response\/","title":{"rendered":"UKRAINE RESPONSE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Protecting and Empowering Displaced Ukrainian Families<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2022 in response to the urgent needs of Ukrainians fleeing the war, the <strong>&#8220;Ukraine Response Child Protection Project \u2013 Northern Greece&#8221;<\/strong>, implemented with the support of UNICEF, provided vital protection, psychosocial support, and community engagement services for displaced women and children entering Greece.<\/p>\n<p>By 2023, the final year of the intervention, the Ukrainian community in Greece had begun to find more stable footing, and the project successfully transitioned from emergency support to fostering long-term resilience and integration.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>A total of 473 individuals (mainly women and children) were supported through 628 sessions.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The project operated across three key locations:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Promachonas \u2013 The primary land entry point on the Greek Bulgarian border<\/li>\n<li>Serres Accommodation Site \u2013 One of two official Ministry of Migration and Asylum (MoMA) reception sites designated for Ukrainians<\/li>\n<li>Blue Refugee Center (BRC), Thessaloniki \u2013 A hub for psychosocial support and community engagement<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In Promachonas and Serres, SN established a) Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) and b) Mother and Baby Spaces, offering care and parenting support.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout 2023, the focus shifted toward capacity building and sustainability. SN trained staff from the Reception and Identification Service (RIS)\u2014including personnel recruited via the Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA)\u2014to independently operate these spaces.<\/p>\n<p>To support this, SN developed a comprehensive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solidaritynow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Child-Friendly-Spaces_%CE%95%CE%9D_compressed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Child-Friendly Space Toolkit<\/strong><\/a>, which was distributed and introduced through a national training series. Over 160 RIS personnel across Greece participated in the trainings, demonstrating strong engagement and enthusiasm.<\/p>\n<p>By year-end, both CFSs were successfully handed over to RIS, ensuring their continued operation within the public framework.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strengthening Community in Thessaloniki<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the Blue Refugee Center in Thessaloniki, SN offered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Psychosocial support for women and children<\/li>\n<li>Community-building activities, particularly for Ukrainian women<\/li>\n<li>Support for self-organization, enabling community members to co-lead events and maintain peer networks\/<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These efforts significantly strengthened the Ukrainian community in Thessaloniki, which will continue to use the BRC&#8217;s facilities to run its own initiatives moving forward.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Protecting and Empowering Displaced Ukrainian Families Launched in 2022 in response to the urgent needs of Ukrainians fleeing the war, the &#8220;Ukraine Response Child Protection Project \u2013 Northern Greece&#8221;, implemented with the support of UNICEF, provided vital protection, psychosocial support, and community engagement services for displaced women and children entering Greece.
