For this reason, the experiential activity that was selected, allowing expression through symbols and colors, proved particularly appropriate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"1giqwth\" data-start=\"1320\" data-end=\"1374\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\" role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1323\" data-end=\"1374\">Play as a tool for expression<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1376\" data-end=\"1527\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">At the core of the activity was the identification of people, relationships, or experiences that function as sources of support during times of crisis. <\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1376\" data-end=\"1527\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Through the process, many participants shared stories that highlighted both the strength of social bonds and their absence. Family ties, friendships, internal resilience resources, as well as ongoing losses, emerged as central elements in many narratives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"hjubxv\" data-start=\"1791\" data-end=\"1840\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\" role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1794\" data-end=\"1840\"><em>What emerged through the process<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1842\" data-end=\"2099\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">More than half of the participants identified family as their primary support network, even when geographically distant. At the same time, a significant number of individuals reported that they did not have any person or system they perceived as supportive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2101\" data-end=\"2178\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Additionally, many participants identified sources of inner strength such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2179\" data-end=\"2258\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1thccld\" data-start=\"2179\" data-end=\"2210\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">thinking about their family<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1r451lx\" data-start=\"2211\" data-end=\"2221\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">prayer<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1nlzcwb\" data-start=\"2222\" data-end=\"2258\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the hope for a stable daily life.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2260\" data-end=\"2372\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Goals such as returning to education or securing permanent housing were frequently mentioned as key aspirations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2374\" data-end=\"2467\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The process was often emotionally intense,<\/strong> as many participants shared traumatic experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2543\" data-end=\"2692\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As the psychologist facilitating this activity, I experienced the challenge of both setting boundaries and honoring what participants chose to share.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2694\" data-end=\"2928\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There were moments of deep admiration and emotional resonance in witnessing how individuals narrated their stories. At the same time, there were instances of emotional fatigue, resulting from repeated exposure to traumatic narratives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"1r2gu5i\" data-start=\"2935\" data-end=\"2985\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\" role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"2938\" data-end=\"2985\">Impact on professional identity<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2987\" data-end=\"3070\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This experience acted as a mirror for my professional identity. It brought forward:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3071\" data-end=\"3190\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1xy6sji\" data-start=\"3071\" data-end=\"3096\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the limits of my role<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"617h2i\" data-start=\"3097\" data-end=\"3158\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the need to balance empathy with professional positioning<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"uddrig\" data-start=\"3159\" data-end=\"3190\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the importance of self-care.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3192\" data-end=\"3358\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">At the same time, it highlighted the value of supervision and collective processing of emotionally demanding interventions, particularly within humanitarian settings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-section-id=\"1lpg84a\" data-start=\"3365\" data-end=\"3427\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\" role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"3368\" data-end=\"3427\">A brief intervention with meaningful impact<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3429\" data-end=\"3579\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This experiential activity demonstrated that even brief interventions can act as catalysts for deeper self-understanding and awareness of one\u2019s needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3581\" data-end=\"3750\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In environments where verbal expression may be limited, creating alternative pathways for communication can open meaningful spaces for connection, empowerment, and care.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>*Since August 1st, 2023, the operation of the Athens Solidarity Center by <span class=\"html-span xdj266r x14z9mp xat24cr x1lziwak xexx8yu xyri2b x18d9i69 x1c1uobl x1hl2dhg x16tdsg8 x1vvkbs\">SolidarityNow<\/span> is supported by the Swiss-Greek Cooperation Programme (Embassy of Switzerland in Greece) to reducing economic and social disparities in the EU and by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum.<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>**The Athens Solidarity Center is also supported by the Municipality of Athens.<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vasilina-Vallina Papanikolaou, Psychologist \u2013 Activity Coordinator During my voluntary work as a psychologist at SolidarityNow, I undertook the implementation of an experiential activity aimed at exploring participants\u2019 support networks, as well as the personal experiences and characteristics that help them cope with difficulties, ultimately fostering their empowerment through this process.
