Human trafficking remains one of the most serious human rights violations. According to the 2025 Annual Report of the National Referral Mechanism (NRM)<\/a>, the number of referrals nearly doubled, rising from 465 in 2024 to 881 in 2025.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The latest data show that labor exploitation<\/strong> has now surpassed sexual exploitation as the most common form of human trafficking in Greece. A total of 543 cases of labor exploitation were recorded, representing a 154% increase compared to the previous year, while sexual exploitation<\/strong> remained the second most common form, with 252 reported cases.<\/span><\/p>\n

The increase in reported cases is a stark reminder that human trafficking continues to evolve as a severe human rights violation. Addressing it effectively requires coordinated action, cross-sectoral collaboration, and sustained investment in prevention, early identification, and victim protection.<\/span><\/p>\n

SolidarityNow has actively contributed to strengthening Greece’s national response through the PROCAP project<\/strong>, implemented in partnership with the National Centre for Social Solidarity (EKKA) and KMOP \u2013 Social Action and Innovation Centre. As acknowledged in the NRM Annual Report, the project enhanced the capacity of frontline professionals to identify and protect potential victims of human trafficking through specialized training, the development of practical tools such as thematic pocket guides, and the creation of a digital learning platform.<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

In parallel, through two Mobile Units operating in Attica and Central Macedonia, the project provided tailored support to individuals at heightened risk of human trafficking. Overall, 303 people from 28 countries received support through 2,178 individual sessions, during which integrated legal, psychosocial, and material assistance was provided based on personalized action plans and a holistic protection approach.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, SolidarityNow actively participates<\/strong> in the Interdisciplinary Working Group for the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking, established at the initiative of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum. Through this participation, we contribute to coordination efforts, knowledge exchange, and the development of effective policies and practices for the prevention, early identification, protection, and support of victims of human trafficking.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through our institutional engagement, the provision of specialized services, and close cooperation with public authorities and civil society organizations, we remain committed to strengthening the national protection system and ensuring that every victim has timely access to protection and the rights they are entitled to.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
