Main Purpose:
To promote the strategic vision of SolidarityNow and to maximise its value added in designing, implementing and delivering innovative, effective and efficient programs in pursuit of its vision statement.
To ensure the continuous and uninterrupted operation of SolidarityNow, the General Manager needs to lead, coordinate and monitor all the affairs of the Association with a view to ensure its seamless and uninterrupted operation as well as the effective implementation of all statutory acts, and openness and accountability in modes of operation.
To ensure the operation of SolidarityNow as a leader in social and societal intervention in the pursuit of its social objectives.
Responsibilities:
She/He will perform the duties associated with the aforementioned status, will have all the powers and duties of administration, management and representation, both judicial and extrajudicial, of the Association before third parties, as well as full responsibility for the activities of the Association in Greece. She/he will be answerable to the Board of SolidarityNow and will submit regular assessment of progress and financial reports.
Such tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Management of the programs of the Association.
- Developing the fund-raising capacity of programs according to their approved sustainability plans.
- Coordinate with leadership vision, the day-to-day running of a network of Solidarity Centers as well as its expansions, as well as related work and campaigns
- Provide strong leadership to accomplish the daily provision and supervision of staff management, staffing and professional development
- Discussions and negotiations with partners in programs, including donors and beneficiaries, as well as with commercial operators
- Liaison with other equivalent organisation, public and international bodies to better pursue the objectives of SN
- Budget management, reporting and accountability for the use of financial resources
- Contact the competent authorities in Greece at all levels
- Exercise and other duties assigned to it.
- The General Manager will duly and faithfully perform the above-mentioned tasks and responsibilities that the Association will assign from time to time.
- She/he will dedicate the time and attention needed for the operation of the Association and will, at any time, try to promote the interests of the Association.
- Will duly observe any rule and regulation that the Association may implement.
- Compilation and submission to the Board of a strategic intervention plan outlining the aims and means of the organisation for the medium term (4-5 years) and short term (1 year). Regular monitoring of such a plan.
- Compilation of an annual report to the Board on social developments in Greece, and the scope for and actual intervention of SolidarityNow.
- Investigation of needs for and innovative means of social intervention, with a view of constant review and improvement of the interventions of SN
PLACE AND NATURE OF WORK:
The General Manager will work at the premises of the Association’s offices in the wider area of Athens. However, to better perform the tasks assigned and according to the needs of the Association, the General Manager will be required to travel to Europe and / or elsewhere on a regular basis without any additional compensation.
The General Manager may also deal in cases other than the Association’s, subject to the prior approval of such cases by the Board of Directors of the Association
The General Manager commits the Association to her/his signature with the following powers of administration, management of affairs and representation of the Association:
Represents the Association in court and out of court and acts in the name and on behalf of the Association before any and every Government, Municipal, Community Authority and Service and generally before any third party, natural or legal person in the Hellenic Republic and abroad.
Prior approval of the Board of Directors is required before bringing an action[1] before any Civil, Administrative, Criminal Court of every rank and jurisdiction or Prosecutor’s Office, as well as in the Supreme Court, the Council of State and the Court of Auditors.
Represents and acts on behalf of the Association before any Tax Authority in Greece, applies for and obtains (for the Association) a Tax Registration Number (ΑΦΜ) from the relevant tax authority, submits tax returns, accepts tax identification and clearing notes, records and documents, contests and challenges, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.
Represents the Association before any Bank or Credit Institution in Greece or abroad, including the Deposits and Loans Fund. She/he signs any documents required to open, manage, maintain a bank account of the Association and issue a debit card cash withdrawal card or credit card (the Association) to any bank or credit institution in the country or abroad, including the request for access to the general electronic banking services (such as e-banking, mobile banking, sms banking, phone banking, etc.), withdraws, transfers and deposits money, issues bills of exchange, checks, bills and any other document that can be subscribed or negotiated , to determine balances, to check, to approve accounts of any kind and category, and to issue, sign, accept and / or endorse foreign exchange, checks, promissory notes and other securities negotiable with any Bank and / or National Credit Institution of the rest of the world.
Establishes branches of the Association in other regions of Greece as well as internationally, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors. Receives and accepts, in the name and on behalf of the Association, donations (any funds and / or assets) by any natural or legal person in the country or abroad, government grants, sponsorships of any (natural or legal) of the country or abroad, in cash and / or in kind, as well as any kind of financial assistance and contributions. Concludes and terminates any contracts and private contracts with any person and freely negotiates the financial consideration, including, but not limited to, independent service contracts, fixed-term or indefinite-term employment contracts, private lease agreements and sublease or concession with or without consideration, etc.
In general, s/he acts and signs under the name of the Association and executes and delivers on behalf of the Association all kinds of acts, contracts, documents, evidence, applications and generally all documents and performs, performs, performs and carries out all kinds of acts, issues and actions of any nature that he or she may consider necessary or desirable for the execution and exercise of the powers granted to her/him.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in Business Administration or field relevant to the SN work
- At least 5 years of experience in senior managerial role, preferably in non-profit organisation
- Solid experience in managing budgets
- Solid experience in monitoring, reporting and evaluation of contingency planning
- Demonstrated experience in leading a unit/department, people’s management and change management
- Deep knowledge of the political, social and economic context
- Demonstrable capacity in advocacy and ability to act as spokesperson
- Special emphasis on demonstrated experience in working with institutional donors and managing programmes and/or campaigns
- Analytical and strategic thinking, ability to work under strict deadlines
- Excellent inter-personal communication skills
- Excellent use (both oral and written) of the Greek and English language
- Availability to travel
