Job Overview
The Director of Programmes (DoP) leads the programmes department which is responsible for the development and implementation of all the organisation’s programmes in accordance with the organisation’s strategic priorities and donor agreements. The DoP is a key member of SolidarityNow’s Senior Management Team and directly supervises all staff (Project Coordinators, Project Managers, M&E Manager) in the Programmes Department.
Responsibilities and Duties
Overall management and coordination of programmes
- Oversee all projects throughout duration of project cycle, to ensure quality of implementation, impact, and identify areas for improvement.
- Liaise with donors for the implementation to overcome any challenges relating to current projects, ensure quality of implementation and continuation of activities.
- In collaboration with Project Coordinators, ensure that project implementation is timely, on target, and on budget, overcoming challenges identified during the process.
- Provide technical support to the implementation teams and ensure that implementation is standardised across teams and geographical locations.
- Liaise with other SN Departments to ensure successful project implementation.
- Conduct frequent visits to programme sites to support the field teams.
Reporting and Monitoring
- Oversee reporting process for all programmes according to internal and donor requirements, ensuring strict compliance with deadlines and quality of information.
- In collaboration with M&E Manager ensure the collection of quality data and the development of necessary tools for data collection and monitoring.
- Carry out regular assessments of programmes to improve their impact.
- Oversee the operation of the organisation’s Complaints and Feedback Mechanism.
Programme Development
- Lead the development of quality project proposals and concept notes (including budgets, and log-frames), in collaboration with thematic experts, to support fundraising efforts.
- Identify and review funding opportunities from institutional donors (EU, UN agencies, Greek state) and foundations (national and international) for new programmes.
- Develop partnerships at national and international levels, with relevant stakeholders, for the development of new programmes and to support organisational sustainability.
Programmatic and Organisational Management
- Lead the reflection, definition and follow-up of the organisation’s programmatic strategy including annual implementation plans.
- Promote information exchange and synergies between departments, monitor compliance with the internal rules and procedures, assess and mitigate risks
Staff Management and Development
- Directly supervise Programmes Department staff.
- Provide technical support and oversight to all senior programme staff and lead the establishment and functioning of strong and coordinated implementation teams.
- Provide guidance in the selection, recruitment, and training of programme staff.
Representation
- Represents the organisation nationally and internationally in relevant fora including working groups, conferences and other meetings.
- Represent the organisation in donor and government meetings
Job Requirements / Skills Required
- Minimum 5 years of senior management experience in a humanitarian/ development context, including significant field experience.
- Master’s degree in relevant field (i.e., humanities, social sciences, legal) or equivalent experience
- Sound knowledge of NGO humanitarian/development context at a national and EU level
- Project management skills including design, implementation, and assessment
- Good knowledge of Greek and international humanitarian systems, institutions, donors, procedures and accountability frameworks and best practices in emergency management
- Substantial experience and knowledge of effective financial and budgetary control and securing and managing grants from major institutional donors
- Highly reliable, able to consistently meet tight deadlines.
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
- Creative and strategic mind with the ability to multitask
- Excellent writing and communications skills
- Fluency in Greek and English
- Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and CRM databases
