Responsibilities

Include:

  • Manages, Monitors and Coordinates the Association’s and Program Financial Resources;
  • Is responsible for the proper protection and implementation of Financial Procedures of the Association and those of Donors; the reliability of the Association and its compliance with the law, rules and regulations that the Association is subject to from a wide range of sources and require complex accounting and financial expertise.
  • Establishes and develops the relationship of the Association with the Banks and other Authorities and providing all the Legal and Financial Documentation of the Association;
  • Oversees and approves all association and Program payments including but not only salaries, tax, social security costs, rents, vendors, Grants related expenses etc.
  • Ensures the Value for Money principle is applied across all transactions
  • Provides Accounting and Financial advice and information, ensuring this information is recorded regularly and methodically so that, in combination with investment in systems and procedures, this information is reliable and readily available to be presented to management and donors.
  • Uses available information from the accounting systems; analyses variances and proposes corrective action;
  • Determines the Financial control system of the Association and the transaction mechanism with the banks;
  • Is responsible for the overall budget of the Association and Programs which is submitted to the Board of Directors; and cooperates with all departments for its implementation;
  • Is responsible for safeguarding liquidity and monitoring cash flows;
  • Safeguards and managers the assets of the Association through internal controls, insurance etc.
  • Maintains and develops relationships internally and with other organizations;
  • Is responsible for the preparation of timely monthly consolidated Financial Statements, Payments and Financial Reporting to stakeholders; and the annual closing of accounts;
  • Develops and implements Internal Control systems;
  • Maintains relationship with auditors
  • Controls costs and contributes to their reduction by evaluating offers, participating in negotiations; Participates in financial evaluation of Vendors; monitors contracts; monitoring supplier accounts and other legal issues;
  • Is responsible for the Plan of Accounts and monitoring Accounting Entries;
  • Achieves accounting operational objectives by contributing accounting information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews;
  • Supervises and supports Finance team, provides then with technical advice, delegates responsibilities and evaluates the progress of employees and projects;
  • Participates in Financial Audits by coordinating preparation of financial documentation required;

REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: University Degree in Finance and/or Accounting (Master’s degree or Professional Certifications in Accounting highly desirable)
  • Excellent knowledge of latest Greek Tax and Accounting Policies and Standards and associated regulatory issues and trends;
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in double entry bookkeeping;
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS);
  • Solid work experience as an Accountant in a certified Accounting Practice;
  • Experience of European Programs and reporting would be an advantage;
  • Work experience at an NGO would be an advantage, but not a prerequisite;
  • Very good knowledge of Accounting Software packages (knowledge of Union Accounting Software and Microsoft accounting solutions would be an asset)
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Good analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail and determination to meet deadlines;
  • Experience of Managing a team;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Excellent strategic planning skills and ability to interact with all levels;
  • Effective communication skills (both written and oral) in Greek and English;
  • Ability to work well under pressure;
  • Demonstrated capacity and willingness to learn;
  • Professional attitude towards work;
  • Pro-active and results oriented
