As part of the initiative “ProCap-PROtection of victims of trafficking, CAPacity building and support to key stakeholders”, SolidarityNow is providing vital support services through two Mobile Units operating in Attica and Central Macedonia.

The services offered include:

• Psychosocial and legal support

• Interpretation

• Integration and employment support activities

These services are delivered through both individual case management and group interventions, aiming to prevent the re-victimization of confirmed or potential victims of human trafficking.

In 2024, SolidarityNow’s Mobile Unit specialists supported 159 individuals from 24 different countries, delivering a total of 853 psychosocial and legal support sessions.

Key Findings from the 2024 Support Activities:

• 54% of the individuals supported were women

• 55% were aged between 18 and 29 years old

• 37% faced multiple vulnerabilities, such as experiences of gender-based violence, serious medical conditions, or significant mental health challenges

• The majority of beneficiaries originated from Sub-Saharan African countries, as well as Syria and Ukraine

• Reported forms of trafficking included sexual exploitation, labor exploitation, domestic servitude, and forced marriage

These findings highlight the complex and diverse needs of trafficking survivors and the critical importance of tailored, trauma-informed support. Through ProCap, SolidarityNow remains committed to empowering survivors and fostering resilience through comprehensive care.

Success Stories

In 2024, the ProCap team achieved a significant victory in the fight against human trafficking—a crime that violates human dignity, strips individuals of their freedom, and infringes upon fundamental rights. Through its intervention in an active trafficking case in a neighboring country, and with the invaluable support of relevant national and cross-border authorities and services, the team contributed to the rescue of a young individual held in trafficking conditions and their reunification with family members in Greece.

Similarly, in early 2025, a young woman, with the support of the ProCap team, was officially recognized by the competent prosecutorial authorities as a victim of trafficking. This recognition grants her the right to a residence permit as a victim of human trafficking, along with access to protection services.

Through these critical interventions, ProCap continues in 2025 to provide holistic support to victims of trafficking, empowering them to reclaim their rights and rebuild their lives with dignity and safety.

The Situation in Greece and Europe

Greece remains one of the primary entry points for individuals seeking international protection in Europe. Displaced populations and people fleeing persecution are among the groups most vulnerable to human trafficking.

According to the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) for the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking, during the first half of 2024, 189 cases of human trafficking were officially recorded in Greece. Of these, 160 involved adult victims and 29 were children—including 13 unaccompanied minors.

Across Europe, the latest Eurostat data for 2023 recorded 10,793 victims of human trafficking, marking a 6.9% increase compared to 2022. This is the highest recorded number for the period 2008–2023, highlighting the growing scale and urgency of the issue across the continent.
