Tania arrived in Greece just days after the war in Ukraine broke out in February 2022. Only a few days earlier, she had completed her first round of treatment for a sudden health issue that, as she says, “came into my life as unexpectedly as the war.” She fled her country accompanied by her then 15-year-old daughter and her mother.

In Athens, she learned about the Solidarity Center and visited it in search of support, initially to help her navigate medical appointments, as her health issue had resurfaced.

From day one, the Center’s social service has stood by Tania, providing crucial healthcare support. Soon after, she also received help from both the employment and accounting services.

Today, Tania, with a background in economics, has a complete CV, submits her tax declarations, holds a free public transportation card, and is well-informed about her rights regarding benefits and social insurance. She remains hopeful and determined to overcome her health challenges, perfect her Greek, and find a job.

Through it all, the team at the Athens Solidarity Center has been by her side – a place where solidarity becomes action, and everyone is supported without discrimination.
