Στο πλαίσιο της εκδήλωσης εστιάζουμε σε κρίσιμα ζητήματα όπως:

1. Καλές πρακτικές για την προστασία θυμάτων στην Ελλάδα και νέες τάσεις του φαινομένου, μέσα από το πρίσμα του Εθνικού Μηχανισμού Αναφοράς.
2. Η δημιουργία ενός δικτύου προστασίας μέσα από τις παρεμβάσεις των κινητών μονάδων, ως ένα ολιστικό μοντέλο εντοπισμού και υποστήριξης θυμάτων.
3. Η σημασία της συνεχιζόμενης εκπαίδευσης επαγγελματιών, με έμφαση σε έξι κλάδους (τουρισμός, αεροδρόμια και μεταφορές, Επιθεώρηση Εργασίας, Υπηρεσία Υποδοχής και Ταυτοποίησης, εκπαίδευση).

Με αφορμή την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα κατά της Παιδικής Κακοποίησης (19 Νοεμβρίου) και την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα για τα Δικαιώματα του Παιδιού (20 Νοεμβρίου), διοργανώνεται εκδήλωση αφιερωμένη στην ευαισθητοποίηση, την πρόληψη και την προάσπιση των δικαιωμάτων των παιδιών.

Αυτές οι δύο ημέρες μας θυμίζουν πως η φωνή των παιδιών πρέπει να ακούγεται και πως όλοι έχουμε ευθύνη να προστατεύουμε, να στηρίζουμε και να φροντίζουμε τα παιδιά, γιατί είναι το μέλλον του κόσμου μας.

Για να τιμήσουν αυτές τις Ημέρες, το SolidarityNow και η ΑΡΣΙΣ, σε συνεργασία με οργανώσεις και φορείς που δραστηριοποιούνται στην πόλη του Βόλου, υπό την αιγίδα του Δήμου Βόλου (Αντιδημαρχίας Κοινωνικής Μέριμνας –Αλληλεγγύης- Ισότητας και Διαχείρισης Κοινωνικών Κέντρων, Aντιδημαρχεία Παιδείας- Εκπαίδευσης) πραγματοποιούν ανοιχτή εκδήλωση την Τετάρτη, 26 Νοεμβρίου 2025, από 18:00 έως 20:00, στον χώρο εκδηλώσεων του Γυμνασίου Ιωλκού.

Στόχος της δράσης είναι να ενημερώσει και να αφυπνίσει την κοινωνία για την ανάγκη προστασίας κάθε παιδιού από τη βία, την εκμετάλλευση και την παραμέληση, αλλά και να αναδείξει το δικαίωμα όλων των παιδιών να μεγαλώνουν με αγάπη, ασφάλεια, ισότητα και σεβασμό.

Η εκδήλωση θα περιλαμβάνει ομιλίες, παρουσιάσεις και καλλιτεχνικά δρώμενα, με τη συμμετοχή φορέων και οργανώσεων που δραστηριοποιούνται ενεργά στην υποστήριξη παιδιών και οικογενειών.

Information and Awareness-Raising Workshop for Local Authorities and Services on the Integration of Third-Country Nationals

SolidarityNow, as an implementing partner of the integration project “HELIOS+: Comprehensive Integration Actions for Third-Country Nationals into the Labour Market” in the Region of Central Macedonia, organised the workshop “Thessaloniki for All: Building Inclusive Communities” at Thessaloniki City Hall. The event was attended by representatives from public administration, local authorities, migrant communities, civil society organisations, and educators.

At a time when local communities are called upon to respond to complex social needs, strengthening integration mechanisms and fostering collaboration between stakeholders is essential for social cohesion and development.

The event opened with greetings from Mr. Spyros Vougias, President of the Municipal Council of Thessaloniki; Mr. Nasos Vitsentzatos, General Director of Migration Policy at the Ministry of Migration and Asylum; and Ms. Lidija Markovic, Integration Programmes Coordinator at the International Organization for Migration (IOM Greece).

Mr. Nasos Vitsentzatos emphasised the importance of linking pre-integration processes with urban fabric and highlighted the need to evaluate integration programmes after their completion to measure their impact.

During his speech, Mr. Efthymios Chatzitheoklitos, Deputy Mayor for Social Policy, Solidarity & Welfare of Thessaloniki, underlined the city’s historically multicultural identity and its role in implementing social integration policies. As he noted: “The Municipality’s role is to demonstrate respect for diversity, in a city where repatriated and Albanian communities have shaped its identity.”

Ms. Marina Donopoulou, Regional Coordinator of the HELIOS+ project at IOM Greece, spoke about the project’s importance and challenges. Funded by the European Social Fund+ and implemented by IOM in Central Macedonia and 11 other regions, HELIOS+ aims to support the social and economic integration of third-country nationals. She stressed: “Our mission in HELIOS+ is complex, multi-layered, and requires the coordinated contribution of all partners. Together, we share the responsibility for the smooth social integration of those we support, developing the necessary synergies.”

Ms. Eleni Athanasiadou from the Department of Social Policy & Public Health of the Municipality of Thermi added: “The Thermi Community Centre is the first point of contact for any citizen in need of support.” Ms. Maria Terzoudi from the Migrant Integration Center (KEM) in Kordelio-Evosmos, shared field experience: “KEM serves as the local reference point for information, support, counselling, and referral of migrants and refugees to other services and programmes. Collaboration and networking with other organisations is critical, as the needs of individuals often exceed the basic services a KEM can provide.”

Special attention was given to the challenges of social integration and the existing institutional gap that prevents access to programmes for individuals who do not meet specific criteria, such as elderly people with vulnerabilities and health issues, who are unable to work and therefore remain without support.

The discussion confirmed that integration requires collaboration, flexibility, and solutions that respond to people’s real needs. SolidarityNow is committed to continuing to build bridges between communities and the State and to promoting practices that strengthen the social participation of all.

The event was carried out with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) – Greece Mission, for the implementation of the project “Helios+: Integrated actions for the inclusion of third-country nationals into the labor market” in the Region of Central Macedonia, with OPS Code 6018682 under the Programme “Central Macedonia 2021–2027.”

The implementation of Helios+ in the Region of Central Macedonia is carried out by a consortium of organizations led by SolidarityNow, in collaboration with the Major Development Agency Thessaloniki (MDAT S.A.), the YMCA of Thessaloniki, and Caritas Hellas.

SolidarityNow, in collaboration with Alpha Bank, received two prestigious awards for the “Bridging the Gap” program at the awards’ ceremony, held in a festive atmosphere on July 15^th. The ceremony brought together over 300 senior executives from leading companies and organizations recognized for their ongoing commitment to inclusion and the celebration of uniqueness.

• 31% of these women have already successfully secured employment!

Το SolidarityNow και το Μαζί για το Παιδί φιλοξένησαν τον γενετιστή, Καθηγητή της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Χάρβαρντ, Δρ. David Sinclair, σε φιλανθρωπικό δείπνο που πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Περιστύλιο του Ζαππείου την Τετάρτη 12 Φεβρουαρίου. Η εκδήλωση είχε στόχο την ενίσχυση του έργου των δύο οργανισμών, που προσφέρουν υποστήριξη σε παιδιά και ευάλωτες κοινωνικές ομάδες.

Πλήθος καλεσμένων παρευρέθηκαν για να παρακολουθήσουν την ομιλία του Δρ. Sinclair με τίτλο: «Αντιστροφή της γήρανσης στους ανθρώπους: Πόσο κοντά είμαστε;» και να στηρίξουν το έργο των δυο οργανισμών.

Ο Δρ. David Sinclair είναι ένας από τους πιο επιδραστικούς επιστήμονες παγκοσμίως, γνωστός για το έργο του στον έλεγχο της διαδικασίας γήρανσης. Είναι Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Γενετικής της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Χάρβαρντ, στο Ινστιτούτο Blavatnik, ιδρυτικός Διευθυντής του Κέντρου Έρευνας για τη Γήρανση Paul F. Glenn και συν-αρχισυντάκτης του επιστημονικού περιοδικού “Aging”. Το έργο του επικεντρώνεται στην κατανόηση των μηχανισμών της γήρανσης και στην ανακάλυψη μεθόδων για την επιβράδυνση ή ακόμα και την αντιστροφή της.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της ομιλίας του, ο διακεκριμένος επιστήμονας παρουσίασε τα ευρήματα της έρευνάς του, η οποία επικεντρώνεται στην κατανόηση των γονιδίων που καταπολεμούν τις ασθένειες και τη γήρανση, με στόχο τη θεραπεία τους, ενώ παράλληλα αναφέρθηκε σε τεχνολογίες που αναπτύσσονται καθημερινά στο συγκεκριμένο τομέα. Τέλος, έδωσε απλές και χρήσιμες συμβουλές στο κοινό της εκδήλωσης για έναν τρόπο ζωής, που όλοι θα μπορούσαν να υιοθετήσουν, ανεξαρτήτως κοινωνικοοικονομικής κατάστασης, και έχει αποδειχθεί ότι έχει θετικό αντίκτυπο στη μακροζωϊα και στην επιβράδυνση της γήρανσης.

Η κυρία Αλεξάνδρα Μαρτίνου, Πρόεδρος του Μαζί για το Παιδί, δήλωσε: «Η εκδήλωση αυτή είναι μια υπενθύμιση της δύναμης της συνεργασίας και της καινοτομίας στη βελτίωση της ζωής των συνανθρώπων μας. Ευχαριστούμε θερμά τον Δρ. David Sinclair για την παρουσία του, καθώς και όλους όσοι παρευρέθηκαν και στήριξαν αυτή την πρωτοβουλία. Μαζί, ενισχύουμε τον αντίκτυπό μας και επεκτείνουμε την υποστήριξή μας σε όσους τη χρειάζονται περισσότερο.»

Round table discussion on “The Difficult Search for Truth in Migration”

In the framework of the annual Athens Democracy Forum, on October 2^nd, SolidarityNow organized a discussion on the challenging search for truth in migration.

The discussion was moderated by journalist Yannis Palaiologos, who facilitated a dynamic and thought-provoking dialogue among the panelists, focusing on how migration can be better understood and communicated in today’s polarized world.

The Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SolidarityNow, Mr. Stelios Zavvos highlighted how migration is frequently exploited as a political tool by far-right parties to polarize societies, fueling fear and spreading misinformation: “Migration in Europe, and particularly in Greece, can address several issues such as labor shortages. From a demographic standpoint the management of migration can help sustain demographic balance. Migrants contribute to the economy and the social security system, and the data indicates that they can bring significant economic benefits to the country. Migration is not a crisis, it is an opportunity. At SolidarityNow, we focus on integrating migrants and refugees as productive members of society.”

Afterwards, Mr. Dimitris Kairidis, Member of the Hellenic Parliament and Professor of International Politics, criticized the harmful portrayal of migration as an “invasion” highlighting how such narratives fuel far-right ideologies. “We need realistic solutions and not promises and extreme rhetoric that only raises expectations and, thus, the despair of the citizen when these expectations are not met. This is especially important for a country like Greece, where, in contrast to what is happening in Sweden or Austria, the migrant population has gone down, not up. The problem in Greece is not that we have a rise of migrants; the problem is, to some extent, the exact opposite.”

Ms. Angeliki Dimitriadi, Head of the Migration Programme of ELIAMEP, criticized the narrative that smugglers decide who enters Europe, emphasizing that it is the lack of legal pathways that forces migrants and refugees to turn to smuggling. “People resort to smugglers because we don’t offer legal paths for those in need of protection. And we don’t have a lot of legal entry paths for low and medium skilled laborers who could otherwise be very useful for our economies. …this pushes people to smugglers and of course it produces further exploitation. We are overly focused on the regular component and far less focused on the legal component on which we should be really prioritize in the years to come, especially as we’re moving into a world that will face competition for labor.”

In addition, Ms. Stella Nanou, Head of Communications for UNHCR Greece highlighted the importance of using accurate and respectful terminology when discussing migration. She pointed out that the use of terms like “illegal arrivals” or metaphors such as “waves” and “tsunamis”, to describe human migration, dehumanizes people and fuels fear. “Words matter, they shape realities and mindsets. Especially in the migration debate, language isn’t just a tool, it’s a huge responsibility that affects human life. There are other ways to speak about migration in a very humane manner without giving to the public the notion that it’s something to be afraid of, a tactic that does not lead to solutions. This kind of language does not leave any space for workable solutions and that’s the real problem.” 

Mr. Alexander Rhodes, Partner and Head of Mishcon Purpose, Mishcon de Reya, addressed the issue of climate migration, stating “When one talks about people being forced to move because they have no choice through the lens of human rights, we are talking about the human rights of the communities from which they are moving, through which they are moving, and of course to which they are moving. And the challenge for our politicians in host countries is to respond to the human rights of our constituents and the needs of our constituents. And their job is to explain that countries to which migrants move benefit in net, as opposed to the communities from which these people are forced to move, who certainly don’t.”

The discussion was honored by the presence of the internationally renowned filmmaker and director, Michael P. Nash who reflected on his experiences making the documentary Climate Refugees in 2010: “There were so many questions that I asked back in 2008 and 2009, when we were traveling around documenting, but found no answers. And so, I think it’s incredibly important to participate in healthy discussions, in forums like this, about migration, because there’s so much data that needs to be analyzed to give a voice to all voiceless victims that are being forced to relocate for survival.”

The Active Citizens Fund (Acf) Operators for Greece -SolidarityNow and Bodossaki Foundation- and Bulgaria jointly organize a regional conference on “Inequalities in Education” in the context of ACF Regional Cooperation Initiatives. The conference brings together fund operators, civil society organizations, and national, regional, European, and international actors and stakeholders.

The conference’s program includes keynote speakers, panel discussions, and interactive workshops.

Objective

The conference aims to share good practices and innovative approaches for achieving inclusive education and eliminating inequalities in educational access and outcomes. Particular emphasis will be placed on vulnerable groups, including refugee and migrant children, Roma children, and children with disabilities.

The conference will focus on four themes:

1. Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education: Challenges and Opportunities
2. Education of Refugee and Migrant Children
3. Education of Roma Children
4. Education of Children with Disabilities
