Position: Kurdish Interpreter

Location: Athens

Starting Date: ASAP

Responsibilities

  1. Provide accurate and complete interpretation;
  2. Interpret orally during interviews with Persons of Concern to SN into specified languages maintaining message content, context, and style as much as possible;
  3. Ensure that the messages transmitted are properly understood;
  4. Provide interpretation in a neutral and non-judgmental manner;
  5. Not accept payment or favor from or on behalf of persons of concern
  6. Not engage in contact or exchanges with persons of concern to SN that might undermine his/her impartiality as an interpreter or the fairness and integrity of SN procedures;
  7. Carry out his/her responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with SN standards for cultural, gender and age sensitivity;
  8. Occasionally carry out written translations from one language to another;
  9. Any ties, professional or personal, with the beneficiary shall be confined to ONLY interpretation services;

 REQUIREMENTS

  • Oral and written language skills in Greek and/or English and excellent command of both of the following languages:

Kurmanji/Sorani

  • Excellent interpretation skills;
  • University or other post-secondary education in interpretation is desirable;
  • Minimum (2) years of relevant experience with an NGO;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural team;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the asylum situation in Greece and related vocabulary is desirable;
