Position:   SN/ASC – RLS Pilot Program Lawyer – Δικηγόρος

Status: Temporary (3-month period July-September 2018)

Location: Athens

Starting Date: ASAP

Position within the Organization: Reports to ASC Legal Team Head and RLS Committee in the UK

Responsibilities:

  • Legal Counselling and representation to the courts for Refugee Legal Support Athens (RLS) beneficiaries
  • Maintain records of all activities
  • Day to day supervision and oversight of the volunteer lawyers and clinic caseload
  • Allocate and supervising casework tasks undertaken by volunteer UK lawyers
  • Work closely with Program Coordinator and Interpreters in quality assurance of caseload
  • Feeding into volunteer lawyer training delivered in the UK
  • Represent SN and RLS in Greek refugee law networks
  • Evaluation of the pilot program

Required qualifications and skills

  • Legal Studies Degree
  • Lawyer Work Permit with a minimum of 2 years full-time experience in Asylum and Immigration law
  • Experience of having responsibility for own caseload at all stages of the Greek Asylum procedure
  • Good working knowledge and experience of EU relocation schemes (including detailed knowledge of Dublin III Convention)
  • Ability to work independtly and ability to lead RLS casework
  • Excellent level of written and spoken English
  • Cross Cultural Awareness and sensitiveness
  • High professional ethics, including strict confidentiality of clients
  • Computer literate & numerate
  • Well organized and efficient
  • Good interpersonal, teamworking & communications skills
  • Native in Greek

 

Desired

  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Strategic Litigation experience and/or experience of litigation at ECJ/CrtHR
  • Knowledge of other associated areas of Greek Law e.g. family /criminal / housing detention law
  • Other languages (German, Arabic, Farsi, Pushtu, Urdu)
