SOCIAL SCIENTIST (SOCIAL WORKER)

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the teaching staff, identify and provide individualized support to children with psychosocial and/or special educational needs and/or disabilities;
  • Organize an identification and referral system for children at risk including services such as medical, legal, psychological, WASH, shelter etc;
  • Perform social work duties and undertake procedures implementation when referral(s) to other services are required;
  • Organize and facilitate awareness-raising and group psychosocial support activities on a broad range of issues for children as part of the life skills development learning process inside the classroom;

  • Conduct regular mapping of beneficiaries across Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia region, needs assessment and service mapping ensuring the access of refugee children to formal education and non-formal education/after-school support opportunities.
  • Promote and enable the access to school for refugee children through the provision of technical and administrative support to parents and education stakeholders (RECs, public school administration and teaching staff etc.;
  • Cooperate with interpreters where needed for the provision of social services or other required activities;
  • Closely cooperate with other team members, passing on crucial information and expressing the need of action clearly and concisely;
  • Directly support and coach beneficiaries through the usage of simple communication and moral uplifting techniques;
  • Regular and ad hoc reporting and data keeping.

Required qualifications & skills

  • University degree in Social Work, or other Social Science;
  • License to work as Social Worker/Social Scientist
  • Minimum five-year professional experience in social work within the civil society sector, preferably working with vulnerable groups and refugees/migrants;

Job Description: The Communications Officer will be responsible for producing and communicating the organization’s internal and external messages following the directions of the Communications Manager and in accordance with SN’s communication strategy. She/He will produce and publicize content (traditional and digital) while develop and implement a strong media and social media presence to meet the growing operational and communicational needs of the organization.

 Responsibilities

  • Supporting the implementation of the SolidarityNow communication strategy
  • Contributing to PR & Communications activities and Plan of Action developed per program (deliverables, reporting)
  • Writing PRs regarding the organization’s news, accomplishments, initiatives, and media pitching
  • Support the copywriting and production of all SN online and offline publications (including design and printing), such as: e-Newsletter, Annual Activity Report, leaflets, project brochures etc.)
  • Support the production of audiovisual material for communications purposes
  • Support media relations (pitching, enquiries, liaising with colleagues and key spokespersons)
  • Support the organization of events
  • Support the day-to-day SN’s website and social media including keeping content up to date and making improvements to functionality
  • Support the overall communications plan with new ideas and proposals
  • Developing press stories related to SN projects/grants aiming to maximizing opportunities for positive publicity
  • Contributing to the updating of the website/social media information operational-wise (promotion of SN projects)
  • Communicating SN, promoting and building awareness upon its work/mandate/results within the organization and its stakeholders (strategic partners, donors, NGOs, volunteers, online followers etc.)
  • Contributing to reporting preparation (publicity report, press clipping report, annual report and statistics, reports to donors etc)
  • Carry out other general communications tasks that may arise in the Communications Team (translations, meetings, awareness campaigns, special events, conferences etc.)

INTERPRETER (FARSI)/RECEPTIONIST-THESSALONIKI

Position Summary: The Interpreter-Receptionist is expected to welcome and facilitate the access of beneficiaries, visitors and Staff, as well as assist in interpretation services.

Interpretation responsibilities

  • Provides clear and accurate interpretation services, during educational activities for adult beneficiaries of international protection;
  • Provides clear and accurate interpretation services, during informative sessions, briefings, trainings etc.;
  • Provides written translation of documents to English or Greek;
  • In coordination with other team colleagues, participates in field-trips and other external activities;
  • In coordination with other team colleagues, ensures that all beneficiaries feel comfortable and safe to share their concerns freely, as well as participate in classes and other educational activities;
  • Respects the code of conduct of the organization, with emphasis on confidentiality;
  • Performs other position-related duties as assigned by the respective Team Leader.

Reception responsibilities 

  • Ensures proper briefing and direction of beneficiaries to the Services of SN
  • Ensures proper registration of beneficiaries in accordance to the Operating System
  • Facilitates incoming calls, record and forward verbal, written and telephone messages
  • Maintains the office telephone service and the equipment present in Reception and wider Area and report to the Supervisor in the event of irregularities.
  • Provides support in case of events, gatherings and meetings organized by SN 

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Excellent command of Farsi and Dari;
  • Excellent command of Greek and/or English;
  • Minimum one-year professional experience as an interpreter or cultural mediator;
  • Computer literacy
  • Familiar with protection issues related to refugee population;
  • High professional ethics;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening and observation skills, including ability to create trust, support, respect and interact with children of all ages, background and diversity;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations in multi-ethnic environment; Cross Culturally Aware and flexible;
  • Strong team player;
  • Well organized and efficient, flexible, able to handle pressure well and adapt in different working environments;

Desired:

  • Previous working experience with local or international NGOs will be considered an asset
  • Field and/or Admin Working Experience in Camps/Temporary Settlements/Projects of refugee/migrant population
