PARTICIPATION CRITERIA

You must be:

Be living in Athens
Between 18 to 30 years old
A Greek citizen OR migrant legally residing in Greece OR asylum seeker/refugee
Proficient in English, as all classes will be taught in English

SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS

Qualified applicants will be invited for a personal interview

DURATION

Training will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 16:00 – 18:30
Training will last for 5 weeks (25 hours total)
Participants will be paired with an individual mentor, who will provide assistance throughout the training

COST

Participation is free of charge for all participants.

CERTIFICATION

All participants who manage to successfully complete the training will receive a Certificate of Attendance

PROJECT OVERVIEW

MY SITE is a project funded by Erasmus+, that aims to train youth residing in Greece – regardless of their background – and help them acquire the tools and skills needed to further develop their business idea and become successful entrepreneurs. The overall objective is to promote entrepreneurship as a means towards social inclusion and integration for both Greeks and third-country nationals, who are often excluded from the labour market thus inhibiting social interaction and exchange.

The project is co-developed and implemented by NGOs and their partners in 5 EU countries (Spain, Italy, Malta, Cyprus, and Greece).

Entrepreneurship training

25 hours of training, covering the following topics:
- finding your niche
- business plan development
- financial management and accounting principles
- communications & marketing
- funding opportunities
Interactive and engaging training sessions, held by qualified trainers
Training will be conducted in group sessions
Training will be conducted in English

Mentorship scheme

To complement the entrepreneurship training and assist young individuals in successfully developing their business plans and uncovering potential opportunities, while adequately preparing for the risks lying ahead, the project incorporates a mentoring scheme. Candidates will be paired with a mentor, according to their business idea, to support and guide them throughout the training cycle and provide their expert advice on the topics at hand.

All courses will be conducted in English.

Γιορτάζουμε τα Επιτεύγματά μας και Κοιτάμε Μπροστά!

Στην Ετήσια Συνάντηση – εκδήλωση του SolidarityNow για την κοπή της πίτας που πραγματοποιήθηκε στις 8 Φεβρουαρίου 2019, στο κέντρο της Αθήνας, ο Πρόεδρος του ΔΣ, κος Στέλιος Ζαββός και τα μέλη του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου* μαζί με εργαζόμενους της οργάνωσης από όλη την Ελλάδα, συγκεντρώθηκαν για να γιορτάσουν τα επιτεύγματα της περσινής χρονιάς, στο πλευρό των πιο αδύναμων. Η οργάνωση πέτυχε να στηρίξει μέχρι σήμερα, περισσότερους από 300.000 συνανθρώπους μας.

Την ξεχωριστή εκδήλωση του SolidarityNow τίμησαν με την παρουσία τους εξέχοντες προσκεκλημένοι όπως ο Πρεσβευτής της Γερμανίας στην Ελλάδα, κος Jens Plötner και ο διακεκριμένος ακαδημαϊκός και πρώην υπουργός Εργασίας, κος Τάσος Γιαννίτσης.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της εκδήλωσης, ο Πρόεδρος του SolidarityNow, Στέλιος Ζαββός, παρουσίασε τα αποτελέσματα της 5ετούς δράσης της οργάνωσης, επισημαίνοντας ότι «Το 2018 αποτέλεσε για εμάς μια χρονιά – ορόσημο, γιατί συμπληρώσαμε πέντε χρόνων λειτουργίας και καταφέραμε να βρεθούμε στο πλευρό 300.000 ανθρώπων που είχαν ανάγκη υποστήριξης. Βοηθήσαμε αυτούς τους ανθρώπους έμπρακτα και ουσιαστικά να ξανασταθούν στα πόδια τους και να διεκδικήσουν ξανά τη ζωή τους. Είτε αυτοί ήταν πρόσφυγες στους οποίους προσφέραμε στέγη και αξιοπρεπή διαβίωση, είτε μητέρες και παιδιά που χρειάζονταν προστασία, είτε άνεργοι Έλληνες τους οποίους βοηθήσαμε να ξαναβρούν δουλειά».

Παράλληλα, ο κος Ζαββός έκανε μια αποτίμηση του διττού ρόλου της οργάνωσης και όρισε το στόχο για το μέλλον: «Σταθερός στόχος του SolidarityNow είναι να συνεχίσει να αποτελεί καταλύτη για την προώθηση των αξιών των ανοικτών και δίκαιων κοινωνιών, καθώς και την προάσπιση των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων των συνανθρώπων μας που βρίσκονται σε ανάγκη».

«Για το 2019, οι οικονομικοί πόροι που καλούμαστε να διαχειριστούμε αυξάνονται με σκοπό να αναπτύξουμε περισσότερα προγράμματα και να βοηθήσουμε ακόμα περισσότερους ανθρώπους που το χρειάζονται. Κι αυτό επιβάλλεται να γίνεται με διαφάνεια ως προς τον τρόπο που λειτουργούμε ως οργάνωση και τις εσωτερικές διαδικασίες ελέγχου που εφαρμόζουμε αλλά και με λογοδοσία προς τους χρηματοδότες μας, την κοινωνία αλλά και τους ίδιους τους ωφελούμενούς μας», σημείωσε ο Αντιπρόεδρος του SolidarityNow, κος Ευθύμης Βιδάλης, χαιρετίζοντας την εκδήλωση.

Αναφερόμενος σε ένα βιβλίο που διαβάζει ο καθηγητής Συνταγματικού Δικαίου και μέλος του ΔΣ του SolidarityNow, κος Νίκος Αλιβιζάτος, αναφέρθηκε στο γεγονός ότι με το πέρασμα των χρόνων χάθηκαν «οι ενδιάμεσοι θεσμοί» οι οποίοι διασφάλιζαν τη συνοχή του κοινωνικού συνόλου, γεγονός που οδήγησε τις κοινωνίες στο φόβο για το μέλλον και στη συνεπακόλουθη συντηρητικοποίηση και τη ροπή προς τα ακροδεξιά κόμματα. Κι αυτό το κενό καλούνται να γεφυρώσουν οι οργανώσεις της κοινωνίας των πολιτών με τη δράση τους, όπως το SolidarityNow.

Η αναπληρώτρια Διευθύντρια της οργάνωσης, Μαριέττα Προβοπούλου, μίλησε για την καθοριστική συμβολή των πάνω από 300 εργαζόμενων του SolidarityNow στην υλοποίηση του έργου και των προγραμμάτων. Στη διάρκεια της εκδήλωσης παρουσίασε όλες τις ομάδες της οργάνωσης και κυρίως, τους ανθρώπους που προσφέρουν καθημερινά τις υπηρεσίες τους στο πεδίο, οι οποίοι, όλοι μαζί συνέβαλαν στα μέχρι σήμερα επιτεύγματα.

Το όραμα, με βάση τις αρχές και τις αξίες που έχουν καθοδηγήσει το μέχρι σήμερα έργο της οργάνωσης, περιέγραψε η Γενική Διευθύντρια του SolidarityNow, Αντιγόνη Λυμπεράκη. «Η ανοιχτή και συνεκτική κοινωνία είναι ο συντομότερος δρόμος για να βελτιώσεις τη ζωή των ανθρώπων και κυρίως των πιο ευάλωτων. Αυτό σημαίνει ολιστική αντιμετώπιση των διαφορετικών αναγκών, με προσήλωση στην αξιοπρέπεια και στον σεβασμό του καθενός και της καθεμιάς. Μπροστά σε αυτούς τους ανθρώπους στεκόμαστε με σεμνότητα και πεποίθηση στην ικανότητα όλων μας για το καλύτερο. Στο SolidarityNow υλοποιούμε προγράμματα ευρείας εμβέλειας και στοχεύουμε στη γρήγορη κεφαλαιοποίηση όλων όσων έχουμε μάθει προκειμένου να σχεδιάσουμε νέα καινοτομικά προγράμματα κοινωνικής παρέμβασης με διαγενεακή στόχευση, ορίζοντα πολυετίας και εμπλοκή νέων εταίρων και δωρητών».

Η κα Λυμπεράκη συμπλήρωσε ότι «Νιώθουμε περήφανοι με τους αριθμούς με έμφαση σε αυτούς που καταδεικνύουν την επιτυχία στις προσπάθειες ομαλής κοινωνικής ενσωμάτωσης των ωφελούμενών μας. Πάνω από 2.300 άνθρωποι συνδέθηκαν με την αγορά εργασίας και 380 βρήκαν δουλειά μέσα από την Υπηρεσία Απασχολησιμότητας των Κέντρων Αλληλεγγύης σε Αθήνα και Θεσσαλονίκη, ενώ μέχρι σήμερα έχουν υποστηριχθεί περίπου 4.000 παιδιά να γραφτούν στο σχολείο και έχουν διοργανωθεί περισσότερες από 10.000 δραστηριότητες μη τυπικής εκπαίδευσης».

SIRIUS project

SIRIUS is an EU founded project which was launched in January 2018 and will run for three years. It is consisted of 11 partners from 7 countries and it builds on a multi-dimensional conceptual framework in which host country or political-institutional, societal and individual-related conditions function either as enablers or as barriers to migrants’, refugees’ and asylum seekers’ integration via the labor market.

SIRIUS has a mixed methods approach and innovative dissemination plan involving online priority action networks, film essays, festival, job fair and an applied game along with scientific and policy dialogue workshops and conferences.

To do so, it has three main objectives:

to provide systematic evidence on post-2014 migrants, refugees and asylum applicants especially women and young people and their potential for labor market employment and, more broadly, social integration
to advance knowledge on the complexity of labor market integration for post-2014 migrants, refugees and asylum applicants, and to explore their integration potential
to advance a theoretical framework for an inclusive integration agenda, outlining an optimal mix of policy pathways for labor market integration including concrete steps that Member States and other European countries along with the EU can take to ensure that migrant-integration policies and the broader system of workforce-development, training, and employment programs support new arrivals’ access to decent work opportunities and working conditions.

As one of the 3 NGOs involved in the project, SolidarityNow saw this project not only as being great opportunity but also as an important effort because labor market integration is part of what we do through our programs and advocacy efforts. We saw it as an opportunity to better inform our work and services and on the other help us develop more evidence-based research and policy recommendations at the national level.

Finally, we recognized the gender- sensitive approach the project is taking, which aligns with how we seek to support women and the additional burdens they face and our goal to reach an in-depth understanding of gender differences. Within the Consortium, we are focusing on the practical implementations of the research findings by hosting a Job Fair in Thessaloniki in spring 2019, and the testing of a Serious Game that employment agencies, migrant organisations and other stakeholders seeking to facilitate the labor market inclusion of recent migrants, asylum seekers and refugees will be able to use.

An educational action by SolidarityNow

What happened on Saturday, September 29^th, among three machines, plastic objects and an excited group of people?

Despite the adverse weather conditions at the end of September, 20 people came eagerly and with increased curiosity at the SolidarityNow Intercultural Center “Diadromes” at 11am to learn how to recycle/up-cycling useless plastic materials.

All of them had brought plastic bottles, cups and bags in different sizes and for two hours they were informed and actively involved in a recycling/up-cycling process of plastic material.

After acquaintance between the associates, participants and machinery operators, one of the last presented to the public the categories of plastic, asking everyone then to separate the plastic objects they had brought based on what they’ve learned. The aim was to separate the objects in the different categories of plastic so that with the appropriate techniques the team could transform the plastic objects into something new and creative using the Precious Plastic machines.

And so, it happened.

The process was simple. Participants placed the plastic object in the cutting machine, then into the respective melting machine, and finally, the melted plastic was placed into a mold that had a polygonal shape. The participants welcomed the result of this procedure with great enthusiasm!

Because the result was an object that can be used in many ways: it was a polygonal tile that if painted can decorate a wall or can be utilized, among others, and as a coaster!

With the promise for many other similar actions and open days, the workshop was completed, and all together said ‘Bye’ and ‘By Plastic’, since they initially goodbye a plastic object and then created a brand new one by plastic.

SolidarityNow invites everyone to a recycling workshop of plastic materials!

We are waiting for you on Saturday, September 29^th, from 11.00 to 13.00, to share with you a unique experience through an awareness and experimentation workshop on the recycling/up-cycling of plastic materials!

SolidarityNow, in collaboration with Electra Energy Cooperative and Precious Plastic Greece, organizes a workshop aiming at raising awareness and providing experimentation on the recycling/up-cycling of plastic materials. The action will take place at the Intercultural Center “Diadromes”, 26, Boukouvala Str., in Ambelokipi, where SolidarityNow offers educational programs open to all, in the framework of the Education Matters initiative, in partnership with Almasar and with the support of the Development Forum.

Take a plastic product with you and see it transformed using cutting, melting and recycling of plastic materials machines! At this open to the public event, the participants will be informed about creative recycling and will have the chance, with the guidance of the experts, to transform the useless plastic materials into something new, inspired and useful!

How? A plastic bag, a plastic bottle, a plastic cup will get a different form and utility with the recycling machines of Precious Plastic Greece and the experts’ guidance.

The action is linked to the Goal 12 on “Responsible Consumption and Production”, one of the 17 Goals set in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the UN, and the event is a joint event of SolidarityNow and the Hellenic Platform for Development.

**In the framework of the lifelong learning program entitled “Education Matters”, implemented by SolidarityNow since December 2017, the organization adapts actions that respond to the participants’ everyday needs and enhance their skills set as one of its objectives, access to labor market. Already, during 2017, more than 2,200 people in Athens and Thessaloniki participated at the SolidarityNow programs, mainly to learn the Greek and English languages; numbers have been increasing gradually in 2018.

Η ομάδα «ARKANOINT» σε συνεργασία με το πρόγραμμα «Ανοιχτά Σχολεία» του Δήμου Αθηναίων , τις ΜΚΟ ΜΕΤΑδραση και SolidarityNow και το Victoria Square Project σας προσκαλούν σε μια σειρά εκδηλώσεων για τους μικρούς μας φίλους.

Παιδιά από διαφορετικές γειτονιές της Αθήνας -ανάμεσά τους και παιδιά που υποστηρίζονται από δράσεις της ΜΕΤΑδρασης και του SolidarityNow- θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να συμμετάσχουν σε ένα ιδιαίτερο κυνήγι θησαυρού και με τη βοήθεια της τεχνολογίας να ανακαλύψουν έναν φανταστικό και αόρατο κόσμο. by(e)plastic: We say goodbye to plastic and we embrace its new uses!

A new educational project by SolidarityNow

SolidarityNow, through its lifelong learning initiative named Education Matters, and in collaboration with Electra Energy Cooperative and Precious Plastic Greece, aims to train a group of people about plastic recycling/upcycling, by building and using Precious Plastic machines. The Precious Plastic machines can be built and operated anywhere in the world, allowing its users to melt and reshape recycled plastic into new, marketable products.

We are currently assembling a team of motivated people that will learn how to build the above-mentioned machines, experiment with the production of such products, operate a plastic recycling workshop and train others in the process. The project foresees that participants will obtain the necessary ideas, skills and tools and create a follow-up project, such as a social cooperative around the innovative concept of plastic recycling or use the skills acquired in order to build new machines and undertake relevant initiatives via the use of the machines. Through this empowering process, creativity and skills development of participants will be reinforced, as well as inclusivity and sustainability.

Whom does the program address?

The educational program By(e)plastic is addressed to everyone.

We are seeking individuals who have a deep, genuine interest in the environment, who are creative, practical and confident using hand and power tools, who are highly motivated, eager to transmit knowledge, while also being committed to fully carry on this project in the long run.

Duration

The workshop will be taking place twice a week (minimum), will last on average 2-3 hours (afternoon/evening sessions) and will include presentations, videos and experimenting with plastic.

The project will run for a minimum of 3 months under the supervision of Electra Energy Cooperative and is expected to continue independently afterwards with any mentoring required.

Location

The seminar will take place at the Intercultural Center Diadromes – in collaboration with Almasar and the support of the Development Forum.

Entry criteria

If you have previous experience on working with metal, plastic or wood, if you have any kind of technical background, if you are interested in learning how to operate a small recycling workshop as a social enterprise, then you should apply today!

Good knowledge of English or Greek is required.
